Hawaii Bioethics Council Documents
This page lists documents collected from my work with the Hawaii Bioethics Council (HBC).
HBC Documents
Much of the HBC's final efforts focused on developing a document framework within which bioindustry activities in Hawaii could address issues related to Native Hawaiian (NH) cultural values.
Note that the HBC was disbanded before any finalized papers were produced.
- A Metamodel for Bioethics from the Perspective of Native Hawaiian Culture (DRAFT)
-
The purpose of this document is to 1) identify core bioethics elements 2) define a framework or metamodel within which multiple bioethics models based on those elements are developed 3) integrate appropriate elements of native Hawaiian traditions and culture and 4) provide reference models that demonstrate how the metamodel may be applied.

- Bioethics Reference Model v0 4.doc (DRAFT)
- This document serves as an example or reference model of the Bioethics Model template described above.
Other Bioethics-Related Documents
- Preservation, characterization and genetic improvement of Hawaiian taro varieties, Cho, John
-
I asked John to send me a sample document typical of one used during project proposals as a prototype to test the effectiveness of our model. This is it. Its contents would eventually form the basis of a reference model (see above).

- Hands Across the Water, Cronin, Karen and Jackson, Laurie, 2004, New Zealand
-
This was a pilot project, conducted over March – December 2003, to test new approaches to ‘dialogue’ between scientists and the community.
It was commissioned by the New Zealand Ministry of Research Science and Technology (MORST), under its ‘Dialogue Programme’ established in 2002. The programme is aimed at improving capacity across the science and community sectors to communicate about science and technology in New Zealand.
